    Abide in Him: John 4

Welcome back to our study of the Gospel of John! In this lesson, we will look at Jesus’ meeting with the Samaritan woman at the well. We’ll also read about Jesus’ first healing (at least the first one mentioned in John). Let’s get started! The Text Jesus and the Samaritan Woman John 4 begins with Jesus and His disciples journeying back to Galilee, partly to avoid the Pharisees. The religious men were after Jesus because many people were being baptized and becoming disciples of Jesus. They didn’t like this. So, Jesus, hearing they were coming after Him, left for Galilee to continue His work. Rather than taking the usual route,…

Abide in Him: 2 Peter 1:10-11

Since most of us are staying home for the next couple of weeks, let’s use this time to work on our Scripture memorization. This is our last section of 2 Peter 1 to memorize. Before we begin our study of verses 10-11, let’s recite verses 3-9. Try it first from memory: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the…

Abide in Him: 2 Peter 1:8-9

How are you all doing with these memory verses? Are you putting all of them together to keep it fresh in your mind? Let’s say them together, beginning with verse 3: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through them we may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your…

Abide in Him: 2 Peter 1:5

Before I dive into our new verse, let’s review what we’ve learned already. Test yourself and try to say verses 3 and 4 out loud first, before reading the text. Here we go: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to His own glory and excellence by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” This week, we will add verses 5-7. Do…

Abide in Him: 2 Peter 1:4

This week, we will add on to our previous verse. Before we jump into verse 4, let’s review verse 3: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who has called us to His own glory and excellence…” Verse 4 is the last part of the sentence we started to learn last time and it continues to explain why we should add to our faith in order to keep from being ineffective and lacking in the knowledge of Jesus. I chose these verses for our memorization project because they serve as a good reminder of what we can…

Abide in Him: 2 Peter 1:3

Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas season. As with all Christmas seasons, this one seemed to have passed too quickly. Now it’s time to jump back into the normal routine of life and into our verse memorization project. We will spend several weeks in 2 Peter 1. We’re actually going to work on memorizing verses 3 – 11. I’m sure some of you are thinking there is no way you can memorize that many verses. I’m here to tell you that yes, you can memorize that many verses. I’m not asking you to do all of these verses at once. We will break this chunk of…

Abide in His Word: Luke 2:10-11

Since Christmas time is upon us, let’s reflect upon the birth of our Savior, Jesus. And there is no better place to begin than with the biggest, brightest birth announcement in the history of the world. The Verses “And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.'” Luke 2:10-11 (ESV) Definitions These verses seem pretty self-explanatory, though it’s important to understand what the angel meant by people, Savior, and Christ. All definitions are taken from…

Abide in His Word: Matthew 22:37 – 39

Welcome to the first “Abide in His Word” post. As mentioned here, I believe it is important for us to memorize the Word of God as it is the Sword of the Spirit. Also, Jesus tells us in John 15 to abide in Him. One way to abide in Him is to have His words abide in us. So, I thought it would be fun if we could memorize the Word of God together. Everything is better when done with others, right? Here’s how it will work: every two weeks, I will post a new verse or group of verses to memorize and give an explanation of the verse(s). Throughout…
